EVs turn out for rally in Sydney

On 10 March, AEVA’s NSW Branch held a rally to show how EV road trips are now normal, but, oh so much better, than their predecessors.

Our enthusiastic EV community took a trip from Sydney Olympic Park to the Hydro Majestic Hotel and on to lunch at Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens. The rally ended back at Sydney Olympic Park, with prizes for the most elegant, most goofy and most electric driving hat, and for the best social media post of the day.

It was a great opportunity to experience new cars, and connect with other members, especially those who live outside the metropolitan area.

As part of Climate Action Week Sydney, about 45 electric vehicles, representing more than 20 different makes and including two electric motorcycles, embarked on the 230 km rally.

Speaking at the lunch, AEVA President James Pickering reminded the participants of the 1973 OAPEC oil embargo, a stimulus for the founding of AEVA. “Over 53 years our mission has remained the same - to accelerate the transition of Australia’s transport networks to electric drive as quickly as possible” he said.

“Electrification of transport is vital to Australia not just meeting its emissions and productivity targets, it’s also a critical investment in the future health and wealth of our nation. Every generation gets their own oil shock, but we are the first to have abundant solutions”.

AEVA NSW gratefully acknowledges the support of its sponsors: BYD Harmony and the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water.
